13 Low-Budget Highlights in Oslo, Norway

I only planned to be in Oslo, Norway for 2 nights. Then my COVID-19 test remained positive and 2-nights turned into 5!

I had to find things to do that were not only predominantly outdoors and socially distant but also low budget—just in case my travel insurance didn’t come through for me on this occasion (it did!).

Anyway, what I learned is that Oslo is a small, fairly quiet city and it has some really special features and experiences that make it stand out.

I had an awesome time exploring everything from its outdoor sculptures to parks and waterways. Check out this post for my list of low-budget highlights in the beautiful city of Oslo!

10 Must-Sees For 24 Hours In Stockholm, Sweden

Carolina and I had time to kill in Stockholm for a day as we waited for her daughter to arrive from Italy. After recovering from our red eye flight from Greece with a car garage nap, we wandered the streets and did a little self-guided landmark and art museum sight-seeing.

We were on our own and pretty aimless until we met up with an old friend of mine. Giles took us around to a few of the more interesting spots including a sunken warship museum with a funny backstory.

This top 10 must-see’s include some typical stops but also some unexpected ones, like where to find Stockholm’s legendary stone face crying over—you’d never guess it—a sculpted vulva! Keep reading to find out more about our 24 hours in Stockholm!

7 Experiences Not to Miss in Western Crete, Greece

As I am preparing to write about my days in Santorini last summer in Greece, I was motivated to write this quick post summarizing the highlights from my time in Crete.

There were 7 major experiences I had that were the best of the best. I wrote in depth about each location, which you can click to read more about at the links provided. This post provides a nice overview—a quick guide, if you will!

Next time I visit, I would like to see more toward the center and Eastern side of Crete but I know I would definitely revisit several of these experiences. If you have the opportunity to go to Crete, do not miss the following!

7 Free (Or Low-Cost) Activities In Grand Cayman

The reality is that travel just isn't accessible to all. There are so many unfair social and economic structures that prevent people who deserve to travel from doing it.

Working out the two most expensive costs of travel—flights and accommodation—is difficult. I've written about how to accrue frequent flier miles and lower the cost of flights and accommodation. Both were challenging for my trip to Grand Cayman during peak season. But I also had to find things to do that are both fulfilling and low-cost.

The activities you choose when you get to your destination can break your budget if you're nor careful. When traveling to Grand Cayman is in the cards for you, this post includes some ways you can have a great time and still save.

17 Things To Do in New Orleans

I love doing these lists. They are a good way to sum up some of the extra stuff I did in a location that is good enough to share but does not warrant a full blown post.

So here's a bunch of photos with descriptions about stuff I did that's totally worth doing in New Orleans. This includes going to the French Market which was full of all kinds of excellent treasures (and giant watermelons) as well as taking my Atheist self to church on Sunday morning. Say what?!

You'll also recognize some emblematic experiences I've talked at length about elsewhere. Enjoy!

10 Must Do's in New York City for First-Time Visitors

I'm taking a break this week from my New Orleans posts to share a bit about my home city!

While Jono was visiting me for 5 weeks this past summer, I took him on a tour of New York City. Although we did not get to do everything we wanted to, what we did do represents a really good outline of "must-do's" for first-time visitors to the Big Apple.

Lists like these have been done before. But what mine includes is a lot of insider tips you won't get elsewhere.

I discuss some of the most typical experiences you should try to have while in New York with tidbits on the best way to do it. These are experiences only a life-long New Yorker comes to know how to navigate—but now you'll know it, too!

9 Must-Do's for Music Lovers Visiting Nashville, Tennessee

Nashville is "Music City" for more reasons than its famous country roots. I mistakenly assumed country music was all Nashville had to offer when, in fact, Nashville has historically been and still is the city of a diversity of musical tastes.

In this post, I describe a variety of musical options available for exploration when visiting Nashville, Tennessee including several I had the chance to check out with my friends.

From hipster jams and punk rock to honky tonks and symphonies—these are the must-do's for music-loving tourists.

Climbing Mission Peak, California: Celebrating My Travels Back on U.S. Soil

Fremont, California's popular hike to Mission Peak boasts gorgeous views over Silicon Valley and the Bay Area. The mostly exposed trail rises steadily through cattle farms before reaching the summit. There, a summit pole doubles as an art piece and artifact emphasizing environmental and social awareness.

I had never hiked to Mission Peak before, but my best friend has made it her yearly ritual ever since she moved to the area from New York. This time, we would hike to Mission Peak together. With me at the close of my travels and her at 6-months pregnant—we were both celebrating milestones in our lives and preparing for the next chapter to come.

9 Things You Must Do and See on Nusa Lembongan and Ceningan of Bali

For my first 4 days in Bali, Indonesia, I traveled to the Nusas ("Islands") to the south east for a bit of adventure and respite. Bali is often associated with young backpackers who travel there to party hard and work on their tans. This may be true of areas like Kuta beach on the mainland, but on the Nusas the atmosphere is much less crowded and much more relaxed.

While staying on Nusa Lembongan, I had the opportunity to explore the entire island and cycle over to the smaller, even more remote Nusa Ceningan. Both of these tiny islands offered beauty, adventure, culture, and a place to put up your feet. Here are 9 things to do and see if you go!
